A roar doesn’t haveto be loud.

ROAR was created around a simple belief: every child deserves to have a voice, to feel protected, and to know they are not alone.

What our name means

ROAR stands for courage, strength, protection and the power of a child’s voice. For a child who has experienced sexual abuse, finding the courage to speak, or simply beginning to process what happened, can be incredibly hard. We stand beside children and their safe caregivers in those moments.

A roar can be

  • Telling someone what happened
  • Asking for help
  • Choosing to feel safe again
  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • Finding the courage for the next step

Our mission

No child or safe caregiver should have to navigate the aftermath of childhood sexual abuse alone. We provide compassionate first-contact support, comfort, education and connection to trusted resources, helping families move from fear and uncertainty toward safety, strength and healing.

Our vision

A future where every child affected by sexual abuse is met with belief, protection, compassion and immediate support, and where no safe caregiver is left to navigate what comes next alone.

Why ROARwas created.

A disclosure may begin with only a few words. What follows can quickly become overwhelming.

A safe caregiver may suddenly be navigating interviews, investigations, medical appointments, therapy, attorneys, court, school concerns and financial strain, all while trying to stay a source of safety for their child.

There are extraordinary professionals working in child advocacy, law enforcement, healthcare, mental health and the legal system. Each serves an important role. But families don’t experience these systems separately. They experience all of them at once.

ROAR exists to support the child and their safe caregiver through the spaces between, and to be a trusted first place to turn when a family is asking, “What do we do now?”

And because a child’s story doesn’t end after a disclosure, an investigation, a court case or a therapy appointment, we want to be there for the weeks, months and years that follow.

Who we serve

  • Children

At the center of everything we do. Every child’s experience and healing is different, and our role is to make sure they are surrounded by safe adults and the right support.

  • Safe caregivers

Parents, grandparents, guardians, foster parents and relatives working to protect a child, often while managing their own fear and grief.

  • The community around them

Advocates, therapists, healthcare and legal professionals, educators, first responders, businesses and neighbors who share our commitment.

What we believe

  • Child first

The safety, dignity and well-being of the child come before everything else. Every decision begins by asking what best supports and protects them.

  • Believe and protect

Children deserve to feel heard, supported and protected. We help build communities where a disclosure is met with compassionate action.

  • Do no further harm

We are committed to trauma-informed practice, and we work alongside qualified professionals whenever specialized care is needed.

  • Dignity and privacy

The children and families we serve will never be treated as stories to exploit or statistics to showcase. Their trust is not ours to spend.

  • Support the safe caregiver

Caregivers carry fear, grief and unfamiliar systems while staying steady for their child. They need resources, guidance and community too.

  • Community

Meaningful support happens when families, professionals, organizations and neighbors work together. We build the bridges between them.

  • Hope beyond the hurt

We acknowledge what families have been through without letting it become the whole of who they are.

Everything we do should help a child feel safer, a caregiver feel more supported, and a family feel less alone.

The lion and the lamb

The lion

Lions stand for courage, protection, strength and family. Ours is drawn the way a child might draw it: simple, warm and approachable rather than intimidating. It is the strength that can live in someone very small.

The lamb

The lamb is comfort, gentleness and companionship. Through our First-Response Comfort Program, every child we serve receives a soft lamb of their own to hold during a time that may feel frightening and unfamiliar.

The choice is intentional. The lamb comes from the parable of the lost sheep, where the shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one. At the heart of that story is a message we hold onto: every child is worth finding, protecting and surrounding with care.

As ROAR grows, the lamb will become a character in an original ROAR children’s book, walking beside a child as they discover their own courage.

The lion is the courage within them. The lamb reminds them they don’t have to find it alone.

Meet our founder

Founder name, Founder and Executive Director

A few sentences from the founder about why ROAR exists, in the founder’s own words. This is a placeholder until the real story is ready.

We can meet children with compassion, give their safe caregiver direction, remove barriers to support, and surround their family with a community willing to stand beside them. Most of all, we can remind every child that what happened to them does not define who they are, or the life that still lies ahead.
